CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard
men's golf team welcomed two recruits to the class of 2014 in
an announcement from Director of Golf Fred Schernecker.
Theodore Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Seiji Liu (Beverly
Hills, Calif.) will join the Crimson this fall as it begins workout
at the illustrious The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. The two
newcomers will give the Crimson nine members on the roster while
fellow rookies Michael Lai (Redlands, Calif.) and Kevin McCarthy
(Lynn, Mass.) will also compete for roster spots during the
fall.
“We are excited to have a deep freshman class joining
us,” said Schernecker. “The strength of the incoming
class is a further reflection of our continued progress as a
program. The group is the most decorated in recent memory and is
especially noteworthy in both of our recruited student-athletes
were HP Scholastic Junior All-Americans in both 2008 and
2009.”
Only 12 girls and 12 boys receive the HP Scholastic Junior
All-America honor each season. Harvard now boasts 10 such awardees
all-time with seven currently on the Crimson men's and
women's rosters (Louis Amira, Christine Cho, Mark Pollak,
Bonnie Hu, Katie Sylvan, Liu and Lederhausen). Liu and Lederhausen
also bring significant other credentials to the golf course as
Harvard strengthens its position as the leading program in the
region.
Liu recently completed his participation in the 2010 Canon Cup,
playing for the victorious west squad. The Canon Cup is an annual
team match play competition featuring the 10 best male and 10 best
female junior golfers from the East of the Mississippi River versus
their counterparts from the West. This year's event was
played at the Old Sandwich Golf Club in Plymouth, Mass.
Liu, who played at the well-known IMG Academies for The
Pendleton School, ended his junior career ranked 38th
nationally by Golfweek/Titleist while finishing ranked
12th in the Class of 2010 with a power rating of 71.94.
His school's valedictorian, Liu has seven career AJGA Top-10
Finishes and 12 Top-15 finishes including a second-place finish at
the 2008 AJGA Mayakoba Classic.
Lederhausen was ranked 41st in the country in the class of 2010
by National Junior Golf Scoreboard. A US Junior Amateur qualifier
in 2008, Lederhausen earned a trio of 3rd place finishes in AJGA
open events during his high school career. Among his accolades are
a first place finish in the AJGA Deutsche Bank Championship in 2009
and fourth place finishes at the 4th seed for the 2009 AJGA Polo
Invitational match play and Illinois State championships.
Hailing from a golf family, Lederhausen has two sisters,
Alexandra and Rebecca, who are on the golf team at Northwestern.
Their mother, Jessica, is a former player at UCLA who also had a
professional career.
