ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Harvard women's soccer
team fell for the first time in the 2010 season, dropping a
non-conference game at Central Florida by a score of 3-0 Friday
evening. With the loss, the Crimson moves to 1-1-1 on the
year, while the Knights improve to 4-1-0.
UCF took an early lead at 7:32, when Katie Jackson put in a pass
from Kim Newsome in front of Harvard goalkeeper Alexandra
Millet. The Knights doubled its advantage to 2-0 later in
the half, as Bianca Joswiak headed in a cross from the far right
side late in the 29th minute.
In the second stanza, Joswiak notched her second goal of the game
at 46:27, as she batted home a rebound off her own shot, making it
3-0 in favor of UCF. In the 56th minute, Harvard's Peyton Johnson
created the Crimson's best scoring opportunity, but her shot was
deflected away by goalkeeper Aline Reis. Later in the second,
Patricia Yau
managed a shot on goal as well, but that chance was also blocked
away.
UCF led the final count in shots, 17-6, and in corner kicks,
8-5. Millet played the first 69 minutes in goal and made
three saves, while Jessica Wright
made her collegiate debut in net in the second half and did not
record a save in 21 minutes of action.
Harvard remains in Florida to play at South Florida Sunday,
Sept. 12 at noon.
