The Games:
After three straight road games, the Harvard returns home to host
Boston University Thursday in the first game played at Ohiri Field
this season. The Crimson will then host Rhode Island at the
Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
The Crimson, which owns a 1-2-1 overall record, is hoping to snap
a two-game losing streak, after falling at Central Florida, 3-0,
and at South Florida, 2-1, during a recent trip to Florida.
Boston University enters the contest with a 3-5-0 mark after
suffering a 3-0 loss at No. 12 Virginia Sept. 12.
A History Lesson:
Harvard leads the all-time series against Boston Unviersity,
12-2-3. The Terriers have taken two of the last three games,
however, including a 1-0 win last year in Boston. Harvard
last defeated BU, 1-0, in double overtime Sept. 14, 2007.
Harvard has played Rhode Island twice and is 0-1-1 against the
Rams. The Crimson tied URI, 0-0 in 2005 and fell, 5-1, in
2006.
About Harvard:
After starting the season 1-0-1, Harvard has dropped its last two
games. The Crimson opened the year by tying Long Island, 2-2,
at the new Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium, and then defeated New
Hampshire in a road game, 2-0, to grab its first victory of the
season.
Harvard is led offensively by Katherine
Sheeleigh (1-2-4) and Patricia Yau (1-2-4)
who are tied for the team lead in scoring. Melanie Baskind,
Peyton
Johnson and Elizabeth Weisman have also scored a goal each this
season.
In net, Alexandra
Millet has started all four games and is 1-2-1 with a 1.76
goals-against average and 17 saves.
About Boston University:
The Terriers enter the game with three non-conference victories
against American, 3-0, Washington, 3-0 and William & Mary,
3-1.
Lisa Kevorkian paces BU with five goals, including two
game-winning tallies, and 11 points on the year. Jessica
Luscinski and Emma Clark have notched two goals apiece, while
Katherine Donnelly has a team-best two assists.
Kelly King and Alice Binns have both seen time at
goalkeeper. King boasts a 3-2-0 record with a 1.58
goals-against average and 13 saves, while Binns is 0-3-0 with a
0.84 goals-against mark and 19 stops.
About Rhode Island:
The Rams are hoping to improve on a 0-5-1 start to the season
after dropping their last five games. Last time out, URI fell
to Maine by a score of 3-2 Sept. 12.
Kaylen Shimoda has a team-best five points and two goals, while
Nikkita Persaud, Stephanie Santos and Torey Hart each tallied a
goal apiece. Goalkeeper Sasha Reiber has played every minute
this fall and is 0-5-1 with a 1.93 goals-against average and 32
saves.
Home Sweet Home:
Harvard is 0-0-1 at home this season, after going 6-2-1 in
Cambridge in 2009. The Crimson is playing its home games at
two different facilities this season: Ohiri Field and the Soldiers
Field Soccer Stadium.
Strong Start:
With four points in four games, Patricia Yau is only one point
away from tying a career-high in scoring for a season. Last fall,
Yau had two goals and an assist for five points.
Coming Up:
The Crimson will open the Ivy League portion of its schedule by
visiting Penn Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
