CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's soccer team
dropped a non-conference home game to Boston University by a score
of 3-0 Thursday afternoon at Ohiri Field. Crimson goalkeeper
Jessica
Wright recorded seven saves in her first-career start in the
loss, as Harvard falls to 1-3-1.
Harvard fired several shots on net from close range in the
opening half, as Katherine
Sheeleigh, Melanie Baskind and Alexandra
Conigliaro each earned chances from inside the box, but BU
goalkeeper Kelly King grabbed each attempt. In the 20th
minute, the Terriers grabbed a lead, as Shauna Kelleher controlled
a loose ball off a blocked shot and slid a pass ahead to Jessica
Luscinski. Luscinski, standing 10 yards out, chipped a shot
over Wright and into the back of the net.
BU (4-5-0) opened the second half with a score at 49:34 when Lisa
Kevorkian scored on a shot from 20 yards out from the right
side. Kevorkian placed the ball just inside the left post,
putting the Terriers ahead, 2-0. With 10 minutes to play in
the contest, Kylie Strom played a corner kick from BU and sent the
ball into the box. Brittany Heist positioned herself near the
left post and headed the ball directly into the back of the net at
80:22.
The Terriers held the final count in shots, 22-16, while corner
kicks were even, with each squad earning six. King played the
first half in net for BU and made five stops. Baskind and
Sheeleigh each had four shots for the Crimson, who will host Rhode
Island at the Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
