Baskind Named Ivy League Player of the
Week
The Game:
Harvard looks to grab its first Ivy League victory of the season,
as the Crimson hosts archrival Yale. Head coach Ray Leone and
his squad enter the weekend at 3-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the Ivy
League after falling at Penn Sept. 24. The Bulldogs stand at
3-5-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the Ancient Eight after dropping its
conference opener to Princeton, 1-0, Sept. 25.

About Harvard:
The Crimson has won two of its last three games and has scored
eight goals during that stretch. Harvard is also 1-1-1 at
home this season after defeating Rhode Island, 2-1, Sept. 17.
Katherine Sheeleigh (4-4-12) and Melanie Baskind (5-1-11) have
tallied nine of the Crimson's 13 goals this year and rank
first and second on the team in scoring. In two games last
weekend, Baskind scored three goals and added an assist for seven
points, while Sheeleigh netted two goals and handed out two assists
for six points. Peyton Johnson (2-1-5) and Patricia Yau (1-2-4)
have also had the scoring touch this fall.
Jessica Wright has started the last four games for Harvard in net
and is 2-2 with a 2.36 goals-against average and 22 saves.
Alexandra Millet has also seen significant time in goal for Harvard
and boasts a 1-2-1 record with one shutout, to go along with a 1.76
goals-against mark and 17 saves.
Opponents are outscoring Harvard, 17-13, but the rimson have a
sizable edge in corner kicks, 54-41.
About Yale:
The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-2 victory at home against Marist
Sept. 28. Yale is 0-3-0 in road contests, while the squad owns a
3-2-1 home record. Opponents have scored 15 goals, while Yale
has tallied nine scores.
With three goals and an assist, Becky Brown paces Yale in scoring
with seven points. Emma Mullo and Juliann Jeffrey are tied
for the team lead with two assists apiece. Brown, Natalie
Romine and Miyuki Hino have tallied game-winning scores this
fall.
Ayana Sumiyasu has started eight of Yale's games and boasts a
3-4-1 record with one shutout. She also owns a 1.43 goals-against
average and 45 saves.
A History Lesson:
Harvard and Yale have played 35 times, and the Crimson controls
the all-time lead in the series, 26-8-1. Harvard has won the
last two games between the schools, including a 3-2 victory in New
Haven last fall.
Moving On Up:
With 14 points this season, Katherine Sheeleigh now ranks sixth in
program history with 66 points in her career. She also stands
sixth with 26 goals, only two behind Joey Yenne '03 for fifth
on the all-time chart.
She's Honored:
With her seven-point effort in two games last weekend, Melanie
Baskind was tabbed the Ivy League Player of the Week Sept. 27.
Baskind scored twice at Penn and added a goal and assist at
Massachusetts Sept. 26
Coming Up:
The Crimson will play at Fairfield Tuesday, Oct. 5, before
welcoming Cornell for an Ivy League matchup at Ohiri Field
Saturday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m.
