CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Harvard lightweight crew
coach Charley Butt and student-athletes Andrew Campbell and Lucy
Grinalds are all candidates for 2011 USRowing Fan's Choice
Awards.
Each of the three Harvard/Radcliffe representatives is up for a
different USRowing honor. Voting is underway at row2k.com and closes at midnight Oct.
28.
Butt is a candidate for Collegiate Coach of the Year after guiding the
Crimson lightweights to a second straight undefeated dual season,
an Eastern Sprints title and a runner-up finish. He helped eight
Harvard lights make national teams. Included in that group is
Campbell, whom Butt coached to the men's lightweight single
final at the World Rowing Championships and World Rowing Under 23
Championships.
Campbell, coming off a summer to remember following his freshman
year at Harvard, is a candidate for National Team Rower of the Year. The youngest
member of the U.S. National Team, Campbell placed fourth at the
World Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia. That performance came
barely a month after he placed third at the World Rowing Under 23
Championships in Amsterdam.
Grinalds, a freshman on the Radcliffe heavyweight crew, is a
nominee for Junior Rower of the Year. She rowed in the
world-champion U.S. women's four at the World Rowing Junior
Championships in Eton, England, helping the United States to its
first win in the event since 2000. Grinalds also won a national
championship in the junior pair, placed third nationally in the
youth women's eight and was the runner-up among junior
lightweight women at the C.R.A.S.H.-B. World Indoor Rowing
Championships.
