Golen scored a career-best 13 points against Minnesota at the Best Buy Classic (Jon Luszcz).

Minneapolis, Minn. – The Harvard women's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped Saturday with a 79-53 loss at Minnesota in the second game of the Best Buy Classic.

Emma Golen, who last night scored a then career-high 11 points, led the Crimson (4-5) with a new career-best 13 points. Brogan Berry and Christine Clark each added 11 points, with Berry dishing out a season-high eight assists and grabbing seven rebounds. Berry's eight helpers moved her past Barbarann Keefer '88 on Harvard's career assists list, where she now stands in fourth place with 439.

Harvard held a 44-33 rebounding advantage over Minnesota (6-5), highlighted by Victoria Lippert's 10 boards. The Golden Gophers held Harvard to a season-low 28.1 percent shooting, however, and scored 20 points off 16 Crimson turnovers. Kiara Buford led all scorers with 25 points as Minnesota combined to shoot 53.3 percent.

Golen kept the Crimson in the game early, scoring each of Harvard's first seven points to open the game. Trailing 9-2, she buried a three from the corner and on the next trip down the court hit a putback to bring the score to 11-7. A pair of Elle Hagedorn free throws made it a two point game, 11-9, and her three-pointer with 9:56 remaining in the first cut the deficit to 13-12.

Clark scored four straight points to give Harvard its first lead of the day, 16-15, hitting a jumper and later following her own miss for the putback. The Golden Gophers responded with a 9-0 run, however, to regain a 24-16 edge. Golen ended the drought with her second three-pointer, and after Clark's and-one the Crimson trailed 27-22. A 6-2 stretch over the final 2-plus minutes gave the Golden Gophers a 33-24 halftime edge.

Golen totaled 10 points in the first half, shooting 4-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-3 from three. Clark and Hagedorn added seven points and five points, respectively, while Berry dished out five assists. Harvard held a 24-15 advantage over Minnesota on the glass, but nine Crimson turnovers led to 13 points to give the Golden Gophers the nine-point margin.

Minnesota opened its first double-digit lead with a three from Buford, 40-30, but Golen continued her strong play and answered right back on the ensuing possession with a three of her own. Buford again made it a 10-point game from behind the arc, and for the second time Harvard responded, this time with a three from Lippert, to put the score at 47-40.

The Golden Gophers began to pull away following Lippert's triple, using a 16-4 run over a seven-minute stretch to open a 63-44 lead. A 6-2 run over the last two minutes gave Minnesota the final 79-53 margin.

The Crimson will take two weeks away from the court for finals and return to action Dec. 22 against St. John's at Lavietes Pavilion. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
