CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After helping the Harvard
softball team to a 6-1 record last week, including back-to-back
doubleheader sweeps of Ivy League North Division foe Brown,
freshman Kasey Lange has been named Ivy League Player and Rookie of
the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the first time this
season a freshman has received Player of the Week honors.
Lange kicked off the week with a dominant performance in a
doubleheader sweep of Holy Cross. After going 3 for 4 with a home
run and three RBI in Game 1, the rookie drove in a career-high six
runs in a second 3 for 4 performance, blasting a pair of home runs
and a double in Game 2 to help Harvard complete the sweep. Lange
notched her 10th RBI of the week in a 4-1 loss to Boston College
Thursday, plating a run on a sacrifice fly.
Against Brown Saturday, Lange banged out four hits and drove in
five more runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Bears, notching her
third three-hit game of the week in Game 2. Lange drove in two more
runs in Sunday's opener and helped Harvard complete the
series sweep with a 2 for 4 showing in Game 2, picking up one final
RBI.
For the week, the Harvard third baseman posted an impressive
.591 batting average, collecting 13 hits, six runs, four doubles,
three home runs and 18 RBI in seven games played. She also slugged
1.182 for the week and had a .593 on base percentage while playing
error-free third base. Lange currently has the second-longest
active RBI streak in the nation at seven games and holds the
Harvard team single-season record with 17 doubles in her freshman
campaign.
Lange and the Crimson will face Boston University Thursday
afternoon before welcoming North Division rival Yale to Cambridge
for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend.
