Three Harvard Alumni to Compete in National Sailing League

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Former Harvard All-America sailors Cardwell Potts '04, Clay Johnson '07 and Elyse Dolbec '08 are set to take part in the new National Sailing League and will race in a showcase event July 1-3 in Boston.

The National Sailing League team racing showcase event will be held at Fan Pier in coordination with the Extreme Sailing Series Boston and the 30th Annual Boston Harborfest from Friday, July 1 through Sunday, July 3. Four teams—the Boston Privateers, California Grizzlies, Miami Tigers and Newport Shamrocks—will be comprised of top team racers, including world champions, national champions, Olympic skippers and All-Americans.

Potts and Johnson will skipper two of the three boats for the Shamrocks, while Dolbec will crew for Johnson. Each day, each team will sail in a best-of-seven series starting at 5 or 6:15 p.m. and receive a win or a loss for the series. The two best win-loss records will sail for the championship to conclude Sunday's racing.

Potts, the 2004 College Sailor of the Year, helped the Crimson win team racing national titles in 2002 and '03 and was a three-time All-America selection. Johnson was a four-time All-America honoree at Harvard and currently sails with the US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics, the U.S. national sailing team. Dolbec twice earned All-America mention while sailing for the Crimson.
