CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Summer 2025 was a masterclass in big boat sailing from the alumni of the Harvard Sailing Team. While plenty of Crimson alumni and members of the current roster had incredible results this summer, five notable entries stood out.
Callisto Racing
James "Jim" Murray ('95) made his mark on the return of the Admirals Cup, with his top-tier racing outfit, Callisto Racing. The crew with Jim on the helm sailed his B&G GP42 Custom to second place in the AC Class 2 amongst the top racing talent in the world. The team won three races in the series. Jim and his team also got fifth place in the 2025 J/70 European Championship.
Arcadia
Friends of Harvard Sailing Chairman, Eliot Merrill, set the pace this summer as captain of the boat Arcadia. Arcadia, a Lyman Morse 46, won the Annapolis to Newport Race in the ORC 2 Class, with a nearly all Harvard Sailing Crew:
Xavier Ayala-Vermont ('27), Gordon Burnes ('88), Eli Burnes ('23), Henry Burnes ('23),
Alexandra Dorofeev ('25), Haven Ladd ('96), and Eliot Merrill ('93). Merrill also won the Ida Lewis Distance Race with a victory in the ORC 1, with another Harvard Sailing-filled boat with Ayala-Vermont, Eli Burnes ('23), Henry Burnes ('23), Ladd, and
Theresa Straw ('28). Arcadia and her team also got second in the Wetherill Race in ORC 2
Hound
Dan Litchfield ('03) and his racing team, Hound, had an impressive and massively entertaining season aboard the recently refitted and astoundingly competitive 1970 Abeking & Rasmussen 59-foot sloop. Fresh off a second place in last year's Bermuda race, the team raced in the transatlantic race from Newport, Rhode Island, to Cowes, England. The team had an amazing run in the Rolex Fastnet race with a podium in IRC 1. The team kept everyone entertained on its Instagram page, which logged their efforts in cinematic fashion all season long.
IC37
Peter Wagner ('88) and his crew aboard Skeleton Key topped the extremely competitive 19-boat IC37 fleet at the Safe Harbor Race Weekend, with an incredible match race against the incumbent champion in the final race to seal the victory.Â
Arma
Nick Dubois ('95), part owner of the racing team Arma Racing, put up some impressive results throughout the season. The GP 42 had a full season of racing with a second-in-line honors and ORC in the STC Block Island Race, fourth in class in the Vineyard Race, and strong finishes in the Larchmont race week, with a first in the Execution Rocks Race (by one second corrected) and second in Class 1 overall.
