What to Know
- Senior Justin Callahan secured an automatic berth to the national championship after leading the Crimson to a first-place showing at the NEISA Match Race Championship in September.
- At the NEISA event, Harvard won the regatta with an impressive score of three, with Callahan joined by Kate Danielson, Mitchell Callahan and Harrison Strom.
- This weekend's national championship comes on the heels of the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships in Norfolk, Virginia. Robby Meek won his first open national championship after a fourth-place effort as a first-year and an eighth-place performance a year ago. The junior is the fourth Crimson sailor to win the open championship, following Robert Doyle (1970), Vincent Porter (2004) and Henry Marshall (2018).
- At the women's singlehanded championship, Sophia Montgomery finished in third place, falling short of defending her national title. The senior finished in fourth place as a first-year (2021), won the event as a sophomore (2022), took 2023 off to prepare for the Paris Olympic Games, and captured the crown as a junior (2024). Danielson, meanwhile, came in ninth place, a season after a fourth-place performance as a first-year.
- Harvard is looking to improve upon its eighth-place effort at the 2024 ICSA Match Race National Championship. Last season, the Crimson advanced to the quarterfinals where it fell to Brown, 2-0, in a best-of-3. Harvard was represented by Justin Callahan, Mitchell Callahan, Strom and Danielson in Oyster Bay, New York. Xavier Ayala-Vermont was also on site as a reserve.
