CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Sophomore Andrew Campbell of the Harvard lightweight crew, who has excelled this summer as a sculler for the United States, is a nominee for United States Olympic Committee Male Athlete of the Month.

Campbell, who recently won medals at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships and the USRowing National Championships and qualified for the World Rowing Championships, is one of 17 nominees for the honor. His competition includes such accomplished athletes as runner Bernard Lagat, swimmer Ryan Lochte and tennis player Mardy Fish.

The 19-year-old from New Canaan, Conn., has had a busy and successful last month. Campbell captured two medals at the USRowing National Championships, winning gold in the lightweight single and bronze in the lightweight double alongside Austin Meyer '12-13. He added another bronze in the lightweight single at the World Rowing U23 Championships.

The biggest regatta of the summer still awaits Campbell. He will be the U.S. representative in the men's lightweight single at the Word Rowing Championships later this month. He earned that berth with an impressive win at the U.S. Senior World Championships Trials, where he defeated the field—including a two-time Olympian—by more than three seconds.
