CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard sailing
team sent sophomores Brian Drumm and Gram Slattery and freshmen Sydney Karnvosky and Andrew Mollerus to the Hoyt Trophy at Brown
this weekend, and the young group sailed to a 12th-place
finish.
Slattery and Karnvosky sailed as skipper and crew, respectively,
tallying 116 points and finishing 10th in the A division to pace
the Crimson. The duo won the ninth race of the regatta, while
placing fifth in race seven as part of four single-digit finishes.
Slattery and Karnvosky edged Old Dominion University senior skipper
Dillon Paiva and freshman crew Cooper Paiva by three points to
secure a place in the top-ten of the final standings. Yale won the
division with 42 points.
Mollerus skippered the B division boat, with Drumm contributing
as crew for all 12 races. Harvard got off to a strong start,
placing fourth and second in the first and third races,
respectively. After a disqualification in the seventh race followed
by a 16th-place result, Mollerus and Drumm recovered by sailing to
seventh in the tenth race. Ultimately, the boat finished 14th with
138 points to add to the Crimson's team total of 254. MIT tallied
59 points for the victory in B division en route to a team victory
in the Hoyt Trophy. The Engineers totaled 139 points to top
second-place Yale by a convincing 24 points.
Harvard coed sailing returns to New Hampshire next weekend to
compete for the Schell Trophy at Brown, while the women will sail
for the Women's Victorian Coffee Urn at Connecticut College.
