Cooley helped Harvard sail to victory in two races in the B
division at the Women's Victorian Coffee Urn (Justine
Agaloos).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard coed
sailing team sailed to an eighth-place finish at the Schell Trophy
hosted by Brown to earn a spot in the Atlantic Coast Coed
Championship regatta Nov. 10-11, while the women claimed 10th at
the Women's Victorian Coffee Urn at Connecticut College.
Gram Slattery skippered all 12 races for the
Crimson in the A division at the Schell Trophy, while Alma Lafler and Ben Lamont served as crew for ten and two races,
respectively. The trio posted 97 points and finished seventh, one
point ahead of their neighbors on the Charles River, MIT. Slattery
and Lafler placed in the single-digits seven times, including a
second-place finish in the fourth race. With Lamont in the boat for
the 11th race of the regatta, the boat placed ninth.
Harvard had a variety of team members hit the water in the B
division, but freshman Andrew Mollerus remained constant as skipper. Sydney Karnvosky worked as crew in races one thru six.
The freshmen duo sailed to three single-digit finishes, including
fourth in the fifth race. The boat's best result came in the
seventh race, with Brian Drumm in as crew.
Drumm also worked as crew for races eight, 11 and 12, and Luke O'Connor saw time in the ninth and 10th races. The
Crimson tallied 119 points and finished 12th in the B division, and
edged Vermont by one for eighth overall with 216 team points. The
top-eight teams qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championship. Yale
totaled 111 points to win the regatta.
At the Women's Victorian Coffee Urn, Caitlin Watson skippered all nine races, and Jacquelyn Cooley and Kristina Jakobson contributed to the crew for
six and seven races, respectively. The boat tallied 69 points and
two first-place finishes with Cooley as crew to pace the Crimson
with a sixth-place finish in the B division. In the eighth race,
the first of Jakobson's collegiate career, Harvard took third.
Morgan Russom (skipper) and Isabel Ruane (crew) finished strong with a second-place
showing in the final race of the A division portion of the regatta.
The juniors registered 104 points and placed thirteenth. Harvard
posted 216 points overall, while Dartmouth tallied 60 and won both
divisions to finish first. The 12th-place result put Harvard
outside of the Atlantic Coast Championship regatta, as only the
top-eight teams made the cut.
The Crimson now prepares for the 10th weekend of fall
competition, where Harvard will sail for the Hap Moore Trophy, a
coed regatta, Nov. 3-4 hosted by the United States Coast Guard
Academy. The women will next sail during the spring campaign.
