CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard coed
sailing team claimed 10th in the Hatch Brown Trophy at MIT, one of
three major interconference regattas the Crimson competed in Sept.
15-16. The women finished 13th at the Mrs. Hurst Bowl at Dartmouth,
while the coed team took 14th at the Nevin's Trophy at King's
Point.
At the Hatch Brown Trophy, senior skipper Jason Michas and sophomore Emma Smith finished 10th in the B division to
pace Harvard with 147 points. The duo won the 11th race of the
regatta, while earning fourth three times.
Freshmen Andrew Mollerus (skipper) and Sydney Karnovsky (crew) secured three top-five
finishes and took 11th in the C division in just the second regatta
of their collegiate careers. Sophomore Michael Drumm skippered the A division boat to
a 12th-place result and earned fifth-place in the first race of the
regatta, with junior Alma Lafler serving as crew. Harvard finished
with 459 points, while Tufts sailed to the win with 253 points.
Harvard tallied 277 team points at the Mrs. Hurst Bowl to finish
ahead of local opponents Boston University and Northeastern, but
behind Yale, who won the regatta with 133 points. Juniors Morgan Russom and Isabel Ruane served as
skipper and crew, respectively, for the A division boat that

Saturday, while freshman Sophie Bermudez took charge on Sunday, with
junior Jacquelyn Cooley staying constant as crew, as
Harvard placed 14th with 139 points.
The Crimson finished 11th in the B and C divisions at the
Nevin's Trophy, with 147 and 167 points, respectively, to pace the
Crimson to a team score of 511. Georgetown won the Nevin's Trophy
with 273 points. Sophomore Brian Dumm skippered the B division, with
junior Luke O'Connor and sophomore Reid Bergsund splitting time as crew. The
boat claimed second in the sixth race of the regatta and placed
third twice as part of five top-five finishes in the division.
Freshman Marek Zaleski sailed singlehanded in all 16
races in the C division, earning third in the 10th race and fifth
twice.
Sophomore Gram Slattery skippered the A division boat,
and Bergsund and junior Alice Kenney served as crew. Slattery and
Kenney finished fourth in the fifth and 16th races of the regatta
as the trio took 14th overall with 197 points.
Harvard next sails for the NEISA Men's Singlehanded Championship
at Boston College, the Hood Trophy at Tufts and at St. Mary's
College of Maryland Sept. 22-23.
