Danny Biega will join the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior captain Danny Biega of the Harvard men's hockey team agreed to terms with the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL), team President and General Manager Jim Rutherford announced Wednesday. Biega will report to the Hurricanes' top minor league affiliate , the Charlotte Checkers of the America Hockey League (AHL), on a three-year contract with the organization.  

Biega finished his collegiate career with 85 points on 28 goals and 57 assists in 132 games. His career games-played mark ranks eighth all-time in Harvard history, one ahead of his brother, Alex, who played from 2006-10. A third-round pick of the Hurricanes in 2010, Danny served as the 120th captain of Harvard hockey in 2012-13.  

As a senior, the Montreal, Que., native picked up the third All-Ivy League honor of his career with selection to the all-league second team. Biega skated in all 32 contests for the Crimson as a senior, and regularly logged the most minutes on the team during games. A finalist for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award, Biega finished the season with nine points on two goals and seven assists, with two of those helpers coming during Ivy League play.

Biega had his most prolific year in Cambridge as a junior. In 2011-12, he received CCM Hockey first team All-America honors, was a runner-up for ECAC Hockey Player of the Year and was the named the league's Best Defensive Defenseman. He was named to the ECAC Hockey Championship All-Tournament team and All-Ivy League first team and ranked second in the nation in points per game among defensemen (1.03).
