BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Maksim Korolev posted the fastest 5K times in the NCAA this season, taking down a Harvard school record from 1996, as the Harvard men's track and field team competed at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational.
Korolev ran the 5,000m event in 13:42.56, dismissing the record of 13:59.35 set by Killian D. Lonergan '97 at the Terrier Classic on Jan. 27, 1996. The senior from Harrisonville, Mo., also outran the conference record, set by Princeton's Donn Cabral (13:45.92) and beat out the second-place finisher by nearly 35 seconds in the event, lapping the field.
Junior Ben Glauser took fourth overall in the shot put, tallying a distance of 17.33m (56-10.25). The Athens, Ga., native just missed third, as Sean Enos of Bates posted a distance of 17.34m. Rookie Julian Nunally took 15th overall in the event with a throw of 15.02m (49-03.50).
Also in the field, freshman Andrew Roney vaulted a distance of 4.70m (15-05.00) to rank ninth overall.
Sophomore Tom Purnell ranked 10th in the 3K with a time of 8:05.58.
The 4x400 squad of senior Jared Kadich, freshman James Heckendorn, junior Jarvis Harris and junior Owen Laub took ninth with a time of 3:17.07. Heckendorn also competed in the 400m dash, crossing in 48.53 for 16th place.
Senior Damani Wilson took 14th in the 200 meter, posting a time of 21.85.
The women's 4x400 squad also earned a spot in school history at the Terrier Invite. Read the release here.
