CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's soccer midfielder Tim Schmoll has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Schmoll led the Crimson with a pair of goals in a 1-0-1 week to extend its unbeaten streak to nine games.
In the 3-0 win versus Holy Cross on Wednesday, Schmoll snapped a personal six-game scoreless streak with a well-timed header in the 56th minute. The junior's goal, which came by way of a header at the back post after a long, accurate cross from Andrew Chang just outside the 18-yard box, put Harvard up 2-0 before the Crimson would eventually run away from the Crusaders, 3-0.
On Saturday in Providence, Schmoll tallied Harvard's only goal in a 1-1 tie with Brown. The Coppet, Switzerland, native received a brilliant up-field pass from Kyle Henderson before stopping it cleanly to make a move and score in the 15th minute. Brown would eventually even things up in the 49th minute, but Harvard escaped with a draw to move to 8-0-1 in its last nine contests.
Schmoll and the Crimson, which sits at the top of the Ancient Eight standings with a 2-0-1 mark in League play, continue the trek to an Ivy League title this weekend as Harvard pays a visit to Princeton on Saturday.
