Stanton, Fuchs Awarded Gold Helmets

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard running back Paul Stanton, Jr., and Wesleyan kicker Ike Fuchs have been bestowed New England Football Writers' Association Gold Helmets after leading their teams to victory this past weekend.

Stanton exploded for a career-high 180 rushing yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns in a 23-12 victory over Dartmouth. The running back also added three catches for 55 yards in the game to finish with 235 all-purpose yards. The win helped push the Crimson to 7-0 on the season and remain as one of three teams in the FCS still unbeaten. The junior from Kenner, Louisiana put Harvard ahead after its first drive of the game with a three yard score after breaking an initial tackle at the line of scrimmage. He added a second first half score with 5:44 remaining in the second quarter to give the Crimson a 20-6 lead to that point. Stanton was also named Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Fuchs set a school record in making all five of his field goal attempts to help Wesleyan top Williams on the road for the first time since 1984. In the 22-0 victory, the kicker connected on field goals of 31, 39, 35, 23, and 25 yards, while also adding an extra point after the Cardinals' lone touchdown. Each of Wesleyan's first half points came at the foot of Fuchs, who hit each of his three kicks from 30-plus yards through the uprights in the first half, helping the Cardinals to a 16-0 lead at the break. Fuchs was also named Division III's National Placekicker of the Week and the NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week.
