BALTIMORE, Md. – Harvard women's
lacrosse's Marisa
Romeo has been selected as one of 11 freshmen and 88 overall
players in the tryout pool for the 2014-15 U.S. Women's
National Team, U.S. Lacrosse announced. Tryouts will be held at
Georgetown University June 13-15.
The 36-40 players that are selected to the national team after
the three-day tryout will train as part of the lead-up to the 2017
Federation of the International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World
Cup in Surrey, England. Ultimately, 18 players will wear red, white
and blue as the U.S. goes for a third consecutive and eighth
overall world title.
An attacker from Syracuse, N.Y., Romeo earned a spot on the
Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association
Northeast All-Region second team and on the All-Ivy second team
after pouring in 48 goals and 58 points to pace the Ancient Eight
as a rookie. Romeo, who recorded at least one point in every game
this spring, led the squad with 10 assists, posted nine hat tricks
and notched at least four goals in a contest in seven outings. She
contributed a career-best six times in a 12-8 win over Vanderbilt
April 2. In her first season in Cambridge, she helped the Crimson
conclude the regular season 9-7 overall and 4-3 against the Ivies
to advance to the Ivy League tournament for the third time in four
seasons.
