CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior defender Despina Giannakopoulos was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week after a dominant showing in a pair of wins for the Crimson last week, the league announced today.

It marks the second weekly honor in as many weeks for the Crimson. Giannakopoulos nearly set a career high in single-game ground balls, recording eight against Holy Cross on Tuesday before adding two more in a weekend win over the Bears.

The senior captain also recorded three caused turnovers against the Crusaders and another against the Bears, finishing with 10 ground balls and four caused turnovers to earn the Crimson's first weekly defensive honor of the season.

A key piece of the Crimson defense, Giannakopoulos has started all nine games this season.
