CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's tennis team defeated William & Mary, 5-2, and Marist, 6-1, to start the 2015 season Saturday afternoon at the Murr Center.

Senior captain Denis Nguyen upended Christian Cargill in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-2, before classmate and fellow captain Alex Steinroeder edged Will Juggins, 7-6 (2), 6-4. Sophomore Brian Yeung made it a third-straight Crimson win with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Addison Appleby.

Grant Solomon made his rookie debut with a win over Lars de Boer (6-4, 7-6 (3). The Crimson earned the doubles point with a 6-2 win by No. 7 duo Nguyen and Yeung over the Tribe's Aaron Chaffee and Cargill. Sophomore Sebastian Beltrame and junior Nicky Hu bested Will Juggins and Scott Huang (6-4).

Against Marist, the Crimson shook up the lineup and earned wins in each of the first four spots. Hu registered a win at the No. 1 position against Joseph Dube, 6-3, 6-3. Rookie Kenny Tao took down Rudolf Kurz (6-2, 6-2) in the No. 2 spot and sophomore Andrew Ball earned a victory at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-2).

Harvard took all three doubles matches, as the Nguyen/Beltrame and Steinroeder/Solomon duos each won 6-2.  

The Crimson will be back in action for an exhibition against Dartmouth Monday, Jan. 19.
