SAN DIEGO, Calif. – No. 22 Harvard men's tennis (12-3) started the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic with a bang, blanking Middle Tennessee State University (9-6), 4-0, Thursday afternoon at San Diego State University.
The Crimson earned the doubles point, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. Senior Shaun Chaudhuri and sophomore Andrew Ball posted a 6-3 win over Robin Riethmueller and Miguel Negre Fernandez. The No. 10 duo of senior captain Denis Nguyen and sophomore Brian Yeung upended Yannick Born and Gian Issa (6-4).
Ahead in all singles matches, it was freshman Kenny Tao, senior captain Alex Steinroeder and Yeung that earned the first three points for the Crimson by winning in straight-sets. Tao bested Born in the No. 3 position, 6-3, 6-2.
Steinroeder and Yeung wrapped the match with wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively. Steinroeder earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Negre Fernandez and Yeung sported a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Riethmueller.
Harvard will play the winner of No. 38 San Diego State and No. 33 Drake Friday.
