Comeback Bid Falls Short for Women's Lacrosse Against No. 10 Penn

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Audrey Todd recorded a hat trick and added an assist for our points, and Kelly Weis made six saves in goal, but the Harvard women's lacrosse team dropped a home Ivy League game to No. 10 Penn, 8-6, Saturday afternoon.

Megan Hennessey netted two goals for the Crimson, while Julia Glynn led the way with three ground balls. Harvard slips to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the Ivy League, while the Quakers improve to 10-2 and 4-0. Penn was led by Iris Williamson, who netted six goals, and goalie Lucy Ferguson who finished with eight stops.

With Penn leading 2-0 midway through the first half, Todd tallied her first goal at 11:54, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Early in the second half with the Crimson trailing, 3-1, Hennessey beat Ferguson with a shot at 29:07, as Harvard pulled back within one goal. The Quakers responded with a 4-0 run over the next 12 minutes and led, 7-2, with 18:55 remaining.

At the 14:31 mark, Todd assisted on a goal by Glynn, 7-3, but Williamson added another goal for Penn with 8:31 to go, 8-3.

In the final minutes, Todd began a 3-0 run for Harvard with another unassisted tally at 5:35, followed by a score from Hennessey with 2:24 to play. With Harvard trailing, 8-5, Todd scored again at the 1:42 mark to make it a two-goal game, but the Crimson could not inch closer.

Penn led the final count in shots, 21-17, and ground balls, 10-8, while draw controls were even, 8-8. Harvard was 9-of-9 on clear attempts and was 1-of-4 on free-position shots.

The Crimson will step out of conference play to host Holy Cross Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m.
