Goldthwait Cup
In its 90th season, the Goldthwait Cup pits Harvard vs. Princeton and Yale. The Crimson has won the series 44 times, including eight of the last 12 tries. The Crimson had won four-straight before falling to Princeton and Yale a season ago. Princeton (26 wins) won a season ago, while Yale (19 wins) last took the trophy in 2006. The cup was first presented in 1925 but was awarded retroactively back to 1922, the year of the first HYP lightweight race.

Last Time Out
Harvard held on to the Haines Cup with a five-second win over Navy last Saturday on the Charles River. The V8, stroked by senior captain Alexander Bonorris and coxed by Catherine Gildea, was neck-and-neck with the Mids through the first 1,000 meters, before separating themselves after the bridge. The crew had an open water lead by the last 250 meters and cruised for a 6:03-6:08 win.

Last Season
The Crimson rebounded from finishing fifth at the Eastern Sprints to take home the silver medal at the IRA National Championships. Harvard posted a 6-3 record during the dual season.

In the Polls
Harvard opened the season at No. 4, and remains there in this week's USRowing poll. The Ivy League owns five of the top six spots, as Cornell and Columbia sit atop the polls and Princeton (No. 3), Harvard and Yale (No. 6) are not far behind. Penn and Dartmouth sits No. 8 and No. 9, respectively.

Scouting Princeton
Coming off back-to-back losses, the Princeton varsity eight bested Penn and Georgetown in Philadelphia last Saturday to take home the Wood-Hammond Cup for the 10th-straight year. The Tigers finished nearly six seconds ahead of Penn and Georgetown was open water back. Head coach Marty Crotty, in his sixth season with the Tigers, won a national championship with the Princeton heavyweights in 1996 and 1998.

Scouting Yale
The Bulldogs won the Durand Cup for the third year in a row last Saturday with a sweep of Dartmouth. The first varsity pulled away from the Big Green in the middle thousand meters and Yale finished with a 7.3-second margin. Head coach Andy Card, in his 26th year at the helm of the lightweights, led the Elis to silver at the EARC Sprints a year ago.

In the Launch
Michiel Bartman enters his second season as the Friends of Harvard Lightweight Rowing Coach for Men's Lightweight Crew after earning a silver medal a season ago at the IRA National Championships. An Olympic champion, a three-time Olympic medalist and a 16-year coaching veteran, Bartman improved the Radcliffe lightweight women's performance in each of his first two seasons at Weld.
