Senior Sherry Liu and the Crimson look to continue its H-Y-P dominance this weekend at Princeton (Ray Yeager).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's swimming and diving team will be in action for the final time during the 2015-16 regular season when it hits the water Jan. 30-31 in the H-Y-P meet, hosted by Princeton at DeNunzio Pool. Fans can watch the meet live on the Ivy League Digital Network with Saturday's competition beginning at 6 p.m. and the meet concluding on Sunday with the first event slated for 12 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Crimson improved its record to 5-0 on the year with a sweep of Brown and Penn, Jan. 16, at Blodgett Pool. Each of Harvard's wins has come against Ivy League competition. Against Brown, Harvard posted a winning tally of 174.5-125.5 and downed Penn, 192-108.
Harvard's divers were exceptional against the Bears and Quakers, taking the top four spots in the one-meter event and the top three in the three-meter. Sophomore Hannah Allchurch garnered wins in both events. In the pool, Willa Wang set the tone with a victory in the 1,000 free. The Crimson went on to take the top three finishes in the 100 backstroke, led by Danielle Lee's 55.85 winning time. Harvard also finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle with Victoria Chan taking top honors and Sonia Wang runner-up. Wang earned her own victory in the 200 butterfly.
A Look Back at the H-Y-P Meet
Last season, the Crimson topped Yale, 184-116, but came to a deadlock with Princeton at 150-150. Outside of last season's tie, the Crimson had been victorious over Princeton the three previous seasons. Harvard's success over its archrival Yale goes back 13 years, with its last loss to the Bulldogs coming back in the 2001-02 campaign.
Scouting Princeton
The Tigers are the reigning Ivy League champions, but they have split the last four titles with the Crimson. Princeton is 4-0 in the Ivy League this season, but did drop its season-opening dual at Miami, 156-144. At Invitationals, the Tigers have a runner-up showing at Penn State and a victory as the host of the Big Al on its résumé this year.
Scouting Yale
The Bulldogs sport an 8-1 overall record and a 5-0 mark against the Ancient Eight in 2015-16. Yale's lone loss of the season came Jan. 15 at home when it fell, 196-157, to Penn State. It followed that outing with triumphs over Rutgers and LIU Brooklyn as its primers for the H-Y-P showdown. Yale competed in one invitational this season, capturing third at the Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, N.C. Nov. 21.
Next Time Out
Harvard, along with the entire Ivy League, will return to DeNunzio Pool Feb. 18-20 for the 2016 Ivy League Championships.
