PHILADELPHIA – The Harvard men's soccer team (3-13, 1-6 Ivy) closed out the 2018 season with a 1-0 double overtime loss at Penn (5-5-6, 2-4-1 Ivy) tonight. Eduardo Cedeño, Nate Devine, Cesar Farias Jr., Nathan Goldberg and Matt Hatter all took the field for the final time in a Crimson jersey.
Through a scoreless first half, the Crimson offense was led by Håvard Hjermstad with two shots while Matt Freese made a pair of saves between the posts. At the end of regulation, Freese had increased his save total to seven while Penn held a 9-4 advantage on corner kicks.
Harvard managed to hold off the Quakers through the first extra time period, but 1:14 into the final frame, Penn capitalized on a free kick where Alex Touche was able to head in the game-winner.
Game Notes
- Harvard was outshot 17-5.
- Nico Garcia-Morillo and Håvard Hjermstad led the offense with two shots apiece.
- Matt Freese made seven saves in net through 101:14.
What's Next
The Crimson will now turn its attention to preparing for the 2019 campaign, set to begin next August.
