SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A late game push by Harvard men's ice hockey fell short, as the Crimson (10-10-4, 9-6-3 ECAC Hockey) fell 3-1 at Union (17-13-1, 12-5-0 ECAC Hockey) on Friday night at Messa Rink. Sophomore forward Ty Pelton-Byce scored for the Crimson, which dropped its first league road contest since November. Junior goaltender Michael Lackey made 27 saves in net for Harvard.
At 7:40 of the first period, Union scored on a broken play, as Liam Morgan found a bouncing puck and scored from the high slot through traffic.
Later in the period, Pelton-Byce knocked down a pass from Union goaltender Jake Kupsky, skated into the slot and beat the goaltender low at 14:50 for his second goal in as many games.
Lackey was at his best in the second period, kicking away a shorthanded chance midway through the frame, and making several goalmouth scramble saves during the frame. Union outshot Harvard 14-8 for the period.
Union pulled ahead when Morgan corralled a loose puck and beat Lackey high at 17:06. Then the Dutchmen scored again on a power play at 18:30 to take a two-goal lead.
Harvard carried the play in the third period, outshooting Union 14-5, but could not solve Kupsky (30 saves)
