PRINCETON, N.J. – Finding success on day one of the 2018 IRA National Championships, No. 4 Harvard men's lightweight crew posted top-three heat results in all three opening races.
The varsity eight crossed the line with a time of 5:51.710, taking second in the heat just behind Columbia, but ahead of Navy and Mercyhurst. Harvard advanced to the grand final on Sunday at 11:40 a.m.
The varsity four rowed to a third-place finish, but with the fifth-fastest overall time of the day at 6:37.802, less than half a second behind Princeton and Yale. The group will row in the finals at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday.
Stopping the clock at 6:24.541, the coxless four took second in its heat, trailing only Princeton. The group edged out Penn and Yale for runner-up honors, and will race in the grand final Sunday at 8:20 a.m.
