TEMPE, Ariz. – Former Harvard men's tennis head coach, Dave Fish '72, will be inducted into the ITA Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame as a member of the six-person 2019 induction class, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this weekend.
The second-longest tenured head coach in Harvard history, Fish led the Crimson for 42 seasons from 1976-2018. As just the third head coach in program history, Fish became the all-time winningest men's tennis coach at Harvard with a 702-319-1 overall record, including 21 Ivy League titles, during his time with the Crimson.
On four separate occasions, Fish has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Coach of the Year, while leading the Crimson to 25 NCAA Tournaments, including 16 tournament victories. In 2014, Fish was the first ITA coach to win the 2014 Meritorious Service Award presented by Conant Leadership. Fish has mentored 15 All-Americans throughout his tenure at Harvard, including 1999 ITA All-America champions James Blake '01 (singles and doubles) and Kunj Majmudar '99 (doubles).
"On behalf of the ITA, I am delighted to announce that this distinguished class will be entering the ITA Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame," said Timothy Russell, ITA Chief Executive Officer. "These six inductees showcase the very best of the college tennis, and exude incredible talent, dedication, and commitment to our sport. I am looking forward to the 2019 Induction Luncheon in Orlando, Florida, during this year's NCAA Division I Championships."
Fish joins coach Greg Patton, and players Roy Barth, Somdev Devvarman, Sargis Sargsian and Doug Verdieck as inductees into the hall of fame this year. Behind former head coach Jack Barnaby '32, Fish is the second head coach in program history to earn this honor. The 2019 ITA Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon will take place on Sunday, May 19 in Orlando, Fla.
"The 2019 class is very accomplished. We are extremely excited to add all six members into the Hall of Fame," added John Frierson, ITA Collegiate Tennis Men's Hall of Fame curator. "We are inducting exceptional coaches and players and we are anticipating a weekend of memorable festivities in May!"
