Hannah Pearce was selected for the South African national field hockey team.
SOUTH AFRICA FIELD HOCKEY RELEASE
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The South African Hockey Association announced that sophomore Hannah Pearce as a member of the South African Women's (Field) Hockey Squad. The team will compete at the FIH Open Series Final in Valencia, Spain from June 19-27.
This will mark Pearce's first selection to the South African senior national team, and she will have a chance to earn her first cap. Pearce has previously been recognized as the Dave Carr U18 Girls Player of the Year by the South African Hockey Association.
A NFHCA Northeast Region Second Team selection and a First Team All-Ivy honoree, Pearce was a big part of the Crimson's nation-leading defensive unit in 2018, allowing .74 goals per game, with 10 shutouts. The sophomore back has started every game since she arrived at Harvard and added a goal and three assists on the offensive end this year.
Pearce helped Harvard (17-2, 7-0 Ivy League) to its best season in program history, as the Crimson set a school marks for wins (17) and wins in a row (14), and had the highest national ranking (No. 6) since the program's inception in 1974.
