CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coming off a pair of ranked wins against No. 12 Ohio State and No. 8 UConn, No. 5 Harvard field hockey begins its 2025 Ivy League slate at home before visiting a crosstown foe this weekend, facing Dartmouth and Northeastern.
Harvard hosts Dartmouth in Cambridge on Friday, Sept. 19, as the Ivy League clash is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and will air live on ESPN+. Admission to Berylson Field is free of charge. The Crimson conclude the weekend with a trip to Northeastern on Sunday, Sept. 21, as first touch is slated for noon. Harvard fans can stream the match against Northeastern live on FloSports.
CRIMSON UPDATES:
- Harvard brings a 4-0 record into the weekend, marking the first 4-0 start to a season since 2021.
- Last weekend saw Harvard earn two major decisions, picking up first ranked wins of the 2025 season against No. 12 Ohio State and No. 16 UConn.
- In its meeting with the Buckeyes, Harvard rose to the occasion in a clutch situation yet again, defeating the visitors in overtime, 2-1. Sophomore forward Martha le Huray scored both goals for the Crimson, marking her first multi-goal performance in her career.
- Harvard outclassed No. 16 UConn on the road, defeating the Huskies in its first shutout of the year, 2-0. Junior midfielder Lara Beekhuis opened the scoring just two minutes into the day, ad le Huray wrapped the contest up with a goal late in the fourth quarter.
- After scoring three goals over two matches, le Huray earned Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her Crimson tenure.
- Harvard's shutout of UConn marked first-year goalkeeper Linde Burger's first shutout in her collegiate career, doing so with four saves.
- The Crimson moved up to No. 5 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's National Coaches Poll, its highest position since the spring of 2021. Harvard is joined by Ivy League rivals Princeton (No. 9) and Yale (No. 18) in the top-20.
- Harvard's captains for the 2025 season are senior midfielders Kitty Chapple and Fiene Oerlemans.
- Head coach Tjerk van Herwaarden is in his 13th season at the helm of the Crimson field hockey program. A four-time Ivy League Coach of the Year, van Herwaarden owns a 151-67 record in his Crimson tenure, earning his 150th career win in the 2-1 overtime triumph against Ohio State.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
- Dartmouth posted a 2-1 record over its first three contests of the 2025 season. The Big Green started the year with back-to-back wins against Bryant and Maine, falling just short against No. 14 UMass, 3-2, last Sunday.
- Northeastern owns a 3-2 record on the 2025 season. After opening the campaign with three straight wins against Stonehill, UMass Lowell and Holy Cross, Northeastern dropped back-to-back decisions against New Hampshire and No. 12 Ohio State.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Harvard and Dartmouth meet for the 51st time on the field hockey pitch this weekend, as the all-time series is tied, 23-23-4.
- Last year's meeting saw the Crimson come up on top in Hanover, New Hampshire, 3-1, as three different Crimson logged goals against the Big Green. Harvard owns a 10-game winning streak against Dartmouth.
- Sunday's meeting between Harvard and Northeastern marks the 49th showdown between the two sides, as the Huskies lead the all-time series, 28-20.
- The last matchup between the Crimson and the Huskies took place in 2023, as Emily Guckian '25 led the way to a 5-1 win with a hat trick. Northeastern is searching for its first win in the series since 2016, as Harvard holds a four-match winning streak, recording a +14-goal differential in that span.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME:
- Since the 2021 campaign, Berylson Field is a fortress for the Crimson.
- Dating back to the start of the 2021 season, Harvard owns a 30-4 record at home, the most wins on home turf in the Ivy League in that time period.
- All four of the Crimson's losses at Berylson Field arrived against ranked opponents (No. 15 Princeton in 2024, No. 19 UAlbany in 2024, No. 5 Duke in 2023, No. 15 UConn in 2022).
ROAD WARRIORS:
- This regular season will see the Crimson participate in nine competitions on the road.
- Harvard has already found success on the road this season, earning three wins against Cal, Stanford and No. 16 UConn.
- In 2024, the Crimson went 9-1 in road contests.
A CAREER TO REMEMBER:
- A focal point for one of the best defensive programs over the last four seasons, senior defender Bronte-May Brough is authoring a remarkable collegiate career.
- Across 56 appearances, Brough owns 20 career goals, 10 career assists and 50 career points. In 2024, Brough set a career-best in assists with six.
- A native of Uttoxeter, England, Brough is only the fourth student-athlete in program history to earn NFHCA All-America honors three or more times. Brough is looking to become only the second four-time All-American in school history, as Bente van Vlijmen '20 did so from 2016-19.
DYNAMIC DUO:
- Junior forward Sage Piekarski and Beekhuis are one of the top attacking duos in the Ivy League.
- The 2024 campaign saw the pair power a Crimson attack that ranked first in the Ivy League in goals scored with 53, marking the first time a Harvard squad led the Ivy League in scoring since 2019.
- A NFHCA Northeast All-Region First Team selection last year, Beekhuis led Harvard in scoring in 2023 and 2024, netting 10 goals in both campaigns. A native of Laren, Netherlands, Beekhuis owns two goals this season.
- A two-time All-Ivy League, Piekarski has 18 goals, six assists and 42 points in 44 career appearances.
TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS:
- Dating back to the 2016 season, the Crimson is maintaining an 87-game winning streak against unranked opponents.
- The last loss against an unranked foe arrived on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, a 3-1 defeat against UMass.
- In 11 victories against unranked foes last year, the Crimson posted a +31-goal difference.
