CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard sailing opens its spring season with a duo of regattas this weekend, Feb. 29-March 1. The team will split up to race at the Hap Moore in New London, Connecticut, while also competing for the Bavier Trophy in Charleston, South Carolina.

Bavier Team Race - Charleston, South Carolina
Sunshine is in store for the weekend in Charleston, with highs in the mid-50's on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, winds are expected to come from the west anywhere between 11-13 knots, but will switch to a northwest direction between five-eight knots on Sunday.
Hap Moore Team Race - New London, Connecticut
The Harvard squad won't see as nice of weather in New London, as temperatures will only reach a high of 35 degrees throughout the course of the weekend. While chance of precipitation is low, winds could reach up to 20 knots on Saturday coming from the west, and up to eight knots coming from the northwest on Sunday.
What to Know
- Five sailors were named to the 2020 NEISA Watch Lists for Co-ed and Women's Sailor of the Year (Eli Burnes, Emma Kaneti), Babineau Crew of the Year (Emily Wang) and Women's Crew of the Year (Emma Jakobson, Jessica Williams).
- The Crimson tallied 13 top-five wins in the fall, highlighted by a first-place finish competing for the Danmark Trophy.
- The team returns two ICSA All-America selections from the 2018-19 season; Co-ed Honorable Mention All-America Skipper Burnes, as well as Honorable Mention Women's All-America Skipper Kaneti.
- Harvard is set to race at Hap Moore for the first time since the 2017-18 season, where it placed fifth.
At the Helm
Michael O'Connor is in the midst of his 21st season as the Harvard sailing team's head coach. During his tenure, the Crimson has won a pair of national team race championships (2002, 2003), as well as a national co-ed championship (2003) and a women's national title (2005).
What's Next
The Crimson looks forward to a trio of regattas next weekend, competing in two co-ed regattas (Jackson TR, Wood Trophy) and one women's regatta (Navy Women's Regatta). The races are set for March 7-8.
