CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – First year Rémi Drolet and sophomore James Kitch earned EISA All-League honors Sunday, shortly after both solidifying a spot at the NCAA Skiing Championships. Drolet tabbed the Male Rookie of the Year, while also landing on the EISA All-East First Team. Kitch, who placed second at the EISA Regional Championships on March 1, landed a spot on the All-East Second Team.
The Paul J. Finnegan Family Head Coach for Harvard Skiing (alpine) Scott MacPherson was awarded the alpine Coach of the Year, after helping lead the alpine team to one of the most successful seasons at Harvard, while also helping spearhead the inaugural Harvard Carnival. MacPherson had two athletes place top 15 over the course of the season, junior Nellie Ide and senior Carter Kendig. MacPherson will travel to the NCAA Championships, coaching Ide at the event.
Drolet had one of the best seasons in Harvard recorded history, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 20km classic at the Bates Carnival on Feb. 7. Drolet became the first male nordic skier to place first since the 1972-73 season, and brought in 178 points in four races. Competing in just two carnivals, the Rossland, British Columbia native finished in the top 10 in all four races.
A Belmont native, Kitch notched his career-best performance at the EISA Regional Championships in the 15k classic race. Kitch collected 336 points over the course of 12 races, while recording nine top-25 finishes - four of those being top-10 efforts. The sophomore will compete at the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row after placing 24th in the 20k and 37th in the 10k at the 2018-19 NCAA Championships.
Kitch and Ide will compete at the NCAA Championships in Bozeman, Montana, March 11-14.
