Softball Honors Class of 2020 on Senior Day

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Harvard softball honored seniors Isabelle Haugh and Alissa Hiener in a virtual senior day on Friday night. Current players, coaches and alumni gathered to pay tribute to the class of 2020. During the cermoney members of Harvard softball watched a video highlighting the careers of Haugh and Hiener and people shared their fondest memories and advice to the two seniors.

The class of 2020 has been excellent scholars, strong contributors on the field and in the Harvard community as outstanding representatives of Harvard softball. In their four years with the Crimson, Isabelle Haugh and Alissa Hiener were a part of 72 overall program wins boasting a .529- win percentage and an Ivy League record of 43-19, with a winning percentage of .694. In 2018, the pair was a part of the Crimson squad that propelled Harvard to the top of the League for the first time since 2012 and secured a berth to the NCAA Regional in Athens, Ga. after a dramatic win over Dartmouth in the Ivy League Championship Series. In 2019, the two once again contributed to the program's eighth Ivy League title. After winning back-to-back Ivy League titles, the squad posted a dominant win over Columbia in the Ivy League Playoff Series, securing a berth to the NCAA tournament in Tucson, Arizona. 

Isabelle Haugh is an infielder and outfielder from Houston, Texas concentrating in economics with a citation in spanish. She served as a captain this year and was also a member of Women in Business where she held a position on the intercollegiate business convention board as the Scholarships Director.  As a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, she served on the board as the Alumnae Engagement Director.  She served two years as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, was a member of the La Vie Club, and also was HSB's Community Service Chair.  Haugh filled multiple roles throughout her four years with the Crimson, playing both second base, and outfield on defense and serving as a key contributor as a pinch hitter and pinch runner. She appeared in 91 career games and tabbed a perfect fielding percentage through 68 total chances. She scored a career-high two runs against College of Charleston on March 16, 2019. Haugh hit her first collegiate home run in an Ivy League game against Dartmouth her freshman year. Although Haugh's senior year was cut short, she managed to make an impact in the program on and off the field as a great teammate and leader. After graduation, Haugh plans to move to New York City and work for Lazard as an investment banking analyst in their Capital Structure group. Congratulations Isabelle.

Alissa Hiener is a pitcher from Ramona, California concentrating in psychology with a secondary in government. Hiener served alongside Haugh and junior Alyssa Saldana as a captain this year and was also a huge part of the greater Harvard community serving as the Student Athlete Chief Marketing Officer for two years. She proctored at the Harvard Summer School, interned at the first-year students experience office, performed research in the psychology labs, and was a member of Women in Business. Throughout Hiener's career with the Crimson, she faced and overcame multiple challenges with extreme poise. Over the course of her four years, Hiener appeared in 49 games and tallied 80 innings pitched where she continuously kept hitters off balance with her wicked rise ball and dirty change up. She registered a career high five strikeouts in three innings of relief against Gardner Webb on February 29, 2020. Hiener has been a starter and mid-game reliever, but had the most impact as a closer for the Harvard softball pitching staff.  During her junior campaign in 2019 she came into several pressure filled games and recorded huge saves. She graduates tied for second place in the Harvard pitching career record books in all-time saves for a season in 2019.  After graduation, Hiener plans to move to the nation's capital, Washington D.C., and work as a management and program analyst for the FBI.
