Women’s Volleyball Returns Home to Host Cornell and Columbia

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After 11-straight matches on the road, the Harvard women's volleyball team (6-8 overall, 3-2 Ivy League) will return home to host Cornell and Columbia this weekend, Oct. 15-16, at the Malkin Athletic Center. The Crimson will first take on the Big Red at 7 p.m. on Friday night, before facing the Lions at 5 p.m. on Saturday night. Both contests will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
What to Know
- The Crimson is tied for third with Yale in the Ivy League standings after going 1-1 last weekend to move to 3-2 in conference play and 6-8 overall. Harvard picked up an upset 3-2 win over Yale, before falling to Brown in a closely contested 3-1 loss.
- Harvard is 5-2 in its last seven matches as the team prepares to return to the friendly confines of the Malkin Athletic Center for the first time since Sept. 4.
- The dynamic duo of sophomore Katie Vorhies and junior co-captain Jaimie Rao continue to lead the Crimson attack. Vorhies is averaging 3.10 kills per set, good for ninth in the Ivy League, while Rao knocks down 3.00 k/s.
- The Crimson has dominated at the service line this season, as three Harvard players rank in the top 10 in the conference in service aces per set. Sophomore Ashley Wang tops the line up with 0.49, while first-year Rocky Aguirre and sophomore Bella Almanza sit at fourth and fifth with 0.40 and 0.36, respectively. As a whole, Harvard ranks second in the league with 1.65 sa/s.
- Harvard has showed its depth in the backcourt with four underclassmen leading the Crimson's defense. First-year Lindsey Zhang leads the way with 3.48 digs per set, while first-year Teia Piette (2.39 d/s), sophomore Ashley Wang (2.25 d/s) and sophomore Nicole Prescott (2.23 d/s) all provide a steady presence as well.
- Cornell heads into the weekend at sixth place in the Ivy League standings with a 5-8 overall record and 1-4 conference mark. Columbia sits one spot below in seventh after posting a 4-10 overall record and 1-4 mark in Ancient Eight action.

Coaches Corner
Head coach Jennifer Weiss is in the midst of her 29th season at the helm of the Harvard women's volleyball program. Weiss has accumulated a 156-170 Ivy record, has led the Crimson to three Ivy League titles and has guided 82 All-Ivy selections during her tenure.
