MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Harvard University men's swimming and diving opened competition at the 2021 Minnesota Invitational with the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay on Wednesday night at the University of Minnesota's Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center, registering an NCAA provisional time in the 200 medley relay.
Competing against No. 1 Texas, No. 3 California, No. 4 Michigan, No. 17 Wisconsin, Arizona, and Minnesota, the Crimson posted an NCAA provisional time of 1:24.39 in the 200 medley relay behind the quartet of senior
Dean Farris, junior
Jared Simpson, junior
Umitcan Gures, and senior
Raphael Marcoux.
Harvard Highlights
- In the 200-yard medley relay, Harvard's A relay posted an NCAA provisional time of 1:24.39 and came within 0.06 seconds of the school record time of 1:24.33. The quartet of senior Dean Farris, junior Jared Simpson, junior Umitcan Gures, and senior Raphael Marcoux eclipsed the NCAA provisional mark of 1:24.83 and finished 0.11 seconds behind fourth-place California A (1:24.28).
- The Crimson's B relay in the 200 medley of sophomore Will Grant, first-year Quinn Harron, senior Jake Johnson, and junior Ryan Linnihan came in 17th with a time of 1:28.73.
- Competing in the 800-yard freestyle relay for the first time this season, the Crimson's A relay of sophomore Marcus Holmquist, first-year Ben Littlejohn, senior Mahlon Reihman, and senior Dean Farris came in sixth place with a time of 6:22.26.
- The Crimson's B relay in the 800 free relay of first-years Harris Durham, Aayush Deshpande, Jonathan Novinski, and Corby Furrer placed 11th behind a time of 6:38.15.

Harvard continues competition at the Minnesota Invitational tomorrow – Thursday, Dec. 2 – through Saturday, Dec. 4.
Thursday competition will include 3-meter diving, the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 400 medley relay with prelims at 11:00 a.m. ET (10:00 a.m. CT), diving at 2:00 p.m. ET (1:00 p.m. CT), and finals at 7:00 p.m. ET (6:00 p.m. CT).
