Austin Madronic Drafted Fifth Overall in 2021 Western Lacrosse Association Draft

BRITISH COLUMBIA, Canada – Harvard men's lacrosse junior Austin Madronic was drafted fifth overall in the Western Lacrosse Association's 2021 Graduating Junior Draft yesterday evening.

Madronic was selected by the Burnaby Lakers in the compensatory round of selections. Moments later, Madronic's playing rights were traded to the Nanaimo Timberman in exchange for Nanaimo's first round pick in the 2021 draft, their first and second round draft picks in 2022 and the playing rights to Callum Crawford.

The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) is an amateur league of men's Senior A box lacrosse sanctioned by the Canadian Lacrosse Association. It consists of seven teams, based in cities throughout southwestern British Columbia. The caliber of lacrosse in the WLA is very high, as the majority of its players also play in the National Lacrosse League during the winter months, while the WLA schedule runs from mid-May to August.

During the shortened, four-game season with the Crimson in 2020, Madronic tallied nine goals and five assists. The attackman posted back-to-back hat tricks against Albany and Fairfield, preserving a point scoring streak that has spanned 16 games (50pts, 30g, 19a) and a goal scoring streak of seven games (15g). Madronic concluded the season leading the Crimson in points (14) and goals (nine).
