No. 15/23 Women’s Soccer Hosts Penn Saturday on Jordan Field in Ivy Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 15/23 Harvard University women's soccer hosts the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Jordan Field in its Ivy League opener as the Crimson enters the contest with an undefeated 6-0-1 record on the season and a No. 6 ranking in the first NCAA RPI Rankings of the year.

What to Know

  • After entering the Top Drawer Soccer national rankings on Sept. 6 at No. 21, Harvard has made a steady ascent up the poll, moving up to No. 19 on Sept. 13 and up to No. 15 on Sept. 20. The Crimson stands as the only Ivy League program in the poll.
  • In the first NCAA RPI Rankings of the season – through games as of Sept. 19 – Harvard checks in at No. 6 in the nation. The Crimson also appeared in the United Soccer Coaches poll for the first time this season at No. 23.
  • At 6-0-1, Harvard has registered its best start since beginning the 1996 season with an 11-0-0 record.
  • In the national NCAA rankings, the Crimson stands sixth in assists per game (3.57), eighth in win percentage (.929), 12th in shots on goal per game (10.29), 20th in shots per game (20.14), 24th in points per game (8.71), and 35th in goals per game (2.57). In the individual rankings, first-year Hannah Bebar ranks 21st in assists per game (0.67).
  • As a team in the Ivy League rankings, Harvard ranks first in points per game (8.71), goals per game (2.57), assists per game (3.57), shots per game (20.14), shots on goal per game (10.29), and corner kicks per game (8.57).
  • Last week, the Crimson earned a pair of 2-1 victories. Harvard opened the week with a 2-1 (2OT) win at Northeastern before topping Kansas at home, 2-1. First-year Jade Rose scored the game-winning goal in double overtime against the Huskies while senior Murphy Agnew scored in the first half. Junior Ava Lung and sophomore Megan Mackey each scored her first career goal in the victory over the Jayhawks.
  • Junior Angela Caloia leads the team and the Ivy League in goals (five) and game-winning goals (two) while ranking second in the conference in points (12) on the season. She has tallied points in five of the Crimson's seven games on the year and has 11 career goals.
  • Senior Murphy Agnew has tallied four goals in her last four games and now has 17 career goals. She ranks fourth in the Ivy League in goals (four) and seventh in points (eight).
  • First-years Hannah Bebar and Ainsley Ahmadian lead the team and sit in a tie for third in the Ivy League with four assists apiece. Bebar has posted points in each of her last four outings.
  • Sophomore Taylor Fasnacht has six points on the year on two goals and two assists. She has registered points in four of the team's seven games.
  • First-year Josefine Hasbo has recorded points in four of the Crimson's seven contests on the season. She has totaled six points on two goals and two assists.
  • First-year defender Jade Rose earned a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week on Sept. 7. She has scored a pair of goals this season.
  • Harvard has scored three or more goals in four games this year and tallied multiple goals in six of seven contests this season. The Crimson has outscored its opponents 18-8 on the year and outshot its opponents 141-54.
  • At home, the Crimson has registered a 3-0-1 record on the season and a 16-4-1 mark since 2018. Overall, Harvard stands at 18-3-2 since 2019.
  • As a team, Harvard has posted two shutouts on the season and notched a 1.07 GAA.
  • Harvard leads the all-time series with Penn, 21-7-3. The Crimson holds a 5-1-1 mark against the Quakers in the last seven meetings.

At the Helm
Chris Hamblin is in his sixth season as The Branca Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Soccer in 2021 after spending five seasons as an assistant coach for the Crimson. The 2016 Ivy League Coach of the Year, he has posted a 43-22-7 overall record and 16-7-5 Ivy League mark during his time at Harvard.
