CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Harvard women's fencing team (10-2) took a trip to Jamaica, N.Y., to compete in the St. John's Invitational against some of the top competition in the country.
Ever Marinelli led the way for the Crimson, tallying a 7-3 record in her bouts to improve to an impressive 21-4 season total.
Annora Lee had a solid day for the Crimson, posting a 6-3 record to get to her total to 17-4.
The Crimson began the day against a familiar opponent in Ivy League member and second-ranked Columbia. The sabre squad led the way for Harvard with a 6-3 record, but the Crimson came up short by a score of 15-12.
In the second match, Harvard shared the strips with No. 1 Notre Dame in a match where the Crimson couldn't find their stride, falling 20-7.
Harvard rebounded in the third match of the day against No. 5 Ohio State, grabbing a 17-10 win to turn the tides on the day. The sabre squad took charge on their way to an 8-1 victory, while the epee squad posted a 6-3 victory of their own.
The Crimson finished the day matching up with the hosts and No. 11 St. John's, picking up its 10th win of the season in dominating fashion by a score of 21-6. Harvard showed up in all three phases with the foil squad prevailing 8-1, the epee squad winning 7-2 and the sabre squad coming out on top 6-3.

Lauren Scruggs won two gold medals this past weekend. She earned the gold in the Junior World Cup in Zagreb, Croatia and with team USA in the team event.
Next Up
The Crimson will return home to take on New York University for the second time this season on Jan. 29, at 3:00 p.m., at the Malkin Athletic Center in Cambridge.
