Cambridge, Mass. – The Harvard volleyball team defeated Ivy League opponent Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 15 in their second win of the weekend. Harvard (4-11, 3-4 Ivy) topped Columbia (4–12, 1-6 Ivy) 3-1 in four sets of 25-23, 25-22, 18-25 and 29-27.
The Crimson started tonight's match from behind as Columbia pulled out a six-point lead to start set one. The Crimson battled back with a five-point run to tie it up at 22, ultimately winning the set to prove they can come from behind. Set two was back and fourth from the start, with six lead changes. Following a tie at 18, Harvard took the lead and finished the set with a four point margin of victory. The Lions led almost the entire third set, finishing with a decisive win to stop the Crimson's sweep. The fourth set was another close battle, getting pushed to extended play where the Crimson won the set 29-27, sealing the match victory.
Harvard Highlights
- Teia Piette scored a career high four aces, beating her previous record in the first set alone by scoring three aces in set one. Her four aces accounted for half of the Crimson's aces throughout the match, with Bella Almanza scoring two more and Olivia Cooper and Lindsey Zhang each scoring one.
- Harvard had four players score over ten kills, led by first-year Brynne Faltinsky with 13, tying her new career high from Friday's match against Cornell. Almanza and Cooper scored 11 and Katie Vorhies scored ten.
-Almanza was three digs away from a triple double, as she led the team and scored 27 assists and seven digs in addition to her kills.
-Katie Vorhies and Faltinsky each scored a solo block, marking Faltinsky's first block solo at Harvard and Vorhies' fourth all-time.
