Men’s Soccer Returns to Ivy League Play at Yale on Saturday Night

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University men's soccer begins a stretch of four Ivy League games to close the regular season when it plays at Yale University on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+/NESN+) at Reese Stadium, coming off a 5-0 win over Holy Cross. 

What to Know

  • The Crimson has allowed just one goal over its last four matches with three clean sheets during that stretch.
  • Harvard has totaled four student-athletes with double-figure points this season. Thus far in 2022, junior Willem Ebbinge (13 points), senior Martin Vician (11 points), sophomore Alessandro Arlotti (11 points), and junior Ale Gutierrez (11) have all crossed the double-figure threshold. Last season, Vician (19), Ebbinge (14), Arlotti (25), and Cornelius Bencsik (12) all reached double-figure point totals.
  • Junior Willem Ebbinge paces the program in assists (seven) and points (13) on three goals and seven assists. Ebbinge stands first in the conference in assists and fifth in points. He has notched points in nine of his 12 games played this season. Ebbinge ranks 11th in the NCAA in assists per game (0.58).
  • For the season, senior Martin Vician leads Harvard in goals (five) and ranks second in points (11). He scored back-to-back braces in games against Northeastern and Quinnipiac. Vician ranks seventh in the Ivy League in goals and ninth in points.
  • Sophomore Alessandro Arlotti ranks fourth in the Ivy League with five assists on the season and has compiled 11 points on three goals and five assists. Arlotti stands 18th in the NCAA in shots on goal per game (1.54).
  • Junior Ale Gutierrez leads the Crimson with five goals and ranks second with 11 points. He stands 13th in the NCAA and atop the Ivy League in game-winning goals (three). He registered his first career brace vs. Holy Cross.
  • A total of 18 different players have tallied points for Harvard on the season. The Crimson tallied 10 players with points in both its 6-0 win over Fairfield (Sept. 24) and its 5-0 win over Holy Cross (Oct. 18).
  • As a team, Harvard has established advantages in shots (206-144), shots on goal (101-55), and corner kicks (87-53) on the year.
  • The Crimson ranks fourth in assists per game (3.00), 18th in corner kicks per game (6.69), 15th in points per game (7.15), 27th in scoring offense (2.08), 18th in shots per game (15.85), seventh in shots on goal per game (7.77), sixth in total assists (39), and 19th in total points (93).
  • Harvard's goalkeepers have posted a 1.23 goals-against average and five shutouts thus far on the season. Senior goalie Oskar Nilsson has notched a 1.43 GAA and two clean sheets over 10 games started, and first-year Cullen MacNeil has posted a 0.67 GAA and two shutouts in three games started.
  • Junior Ale Gutierrez scored a pair of goals, and senior Nico Garcia-Morillo, sophomore Sam Bjarnason, and first-year Matus Vician each netted a goal as Harvard defeated Holy Cross, 5-0, on Oct. 18 in its non-league finale.
  • Junior Ale Gutierrez scored the game-winning goal, first-year goalkeeper Cullen MacNeil posted his first collegiate shutout, and Harvard beat BU, 1-0, on Oct. 4 in its final road non-league game of the year.
  • The Crimson totaled six goals in a 6-0 win over Fairfield on Sept. 24. Six different Crimson – senior Ale Gutierrez, junior Willem Ebbinge, sophomore Marko Isakovic, junior Nik White, senior Martin Vician, and first-year Matus Vician – netted a goal in the game. The six goals marked Harvard's most in a game since a 6-0 win over Penn on Nov. 14, 2015. A total of 10 Harvard players registered points in the contest.
  • First-year Matus Vician earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 26 after posting four points on a goal and two assists in the Crimson's 6-0 victory over Fairfield. The points marked the first of Vician's collegiate career.
  • Harvard earned a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac on Sept. 17 behind senior Martin Vician's second straight brace alongside a goal from senior Ale Gutierrez.
  • Harvard pulled out a dramatic victory against Bryant as senior Nico Garcia-Morillo scored the game-winning goal with 2.5 seconds remaining to lift the Crimson to a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs at Jordan Field on Sept. 6.
  • Harvard opened its 2022 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Central Connecticut State in its home opener on Sept. 3. Sophomore Alessandro Arlotti and junior Willem Ebbinge provided the goals while senior goalkeeper Oskar Nilsson recorded the shutout.
  • Harvard leads the all-time series with Yale, 55-39-13.
  • Yale brings a 6-3-3 overall record and 1-2-0 Ivy League mark into the weekend. In Ivy play, the Bulldogs topped Princeton (3-1), while falling to Penn (2-1) and Dartmouth (3-2).
