"Nick [Loring] emerged as the sole captain for the 2022-23 season after robust and engaged debate among a great group of senior leaders," said Loring's head coach, The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men's Lacrosse, Gerry Byrne. "Nick represents the core values of our program of service, selflessness, commitment, and dedication to our program, his teammates and the mission of our team community and the College."
The 171st elected captain in program history, Loring will be the first sole captain to lead a team through a full season since 2013.
"Being elected captain of the Harvard Men's Lacrosse team is one of the greatest honors I've had in my life," said Loring. "I feel so grateful for all the leadership and guidance of the those that came before me during my time at Harvard and beyond. The group we have in our locker room this year is determined to continue building a winning culture and I'm excited to be one of the many people that helps us succeed this Spring."
Loring established himself as a difference maker on the field for the Crimson a year ago, finishing sixth on the team with 20 points and third on the team with 13 assists. Coach Byrne believes his play and leadership skills will help the team reach new heights in 2023.
"Nick [Loring] will lead the team at a moment of great potential for our program as we look to move beyond NCAA tournament participation and aspire to Ivy League and National Championships while concurrently honoring our academic opportunity at Harvard and the impact we can make in our various communities," added Byrne. "I am confident that Nick [Loring] will lead with passion, conviction, selflessness with the good of the team and College at the top of his mind"
Loring and the Crimson recently completed its Fall competition schedule and have turned its focus towards preparation for the 2023 season. A full schedule of games will be released in the coming weeks on Twitter (@HarvardMLax) and Instagram (@HarvardMLacrosse) as well as here on gocrimson.com.
