CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's swimming and diving stayed perfect on the season after it defeated visiting Columbia, 168-132, on Friday at Blodgett Pool. The Crimson watched its record move to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League, while handing the Lions their first loss of the campaign (4-1; 3-1 Ivy).
The Crimson won nine events, helping it continue its dominance over Columbia. Harvard is now 72-5 all-time vs. the Lions and has emerged victorious in 16 consecutive meetings.
Harvard Highlights
- Harvard opened the afternoon by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:27.84. The foursome of Anthony Rincon, Jared Simpson, Umitcan Gures and Ryan Linnihan combined to post the team's fastest time of the year.
- Marcus Holmquist recorded his best 200-free effort of 2022, winning the race in 1:37.37. He later went on to win the 100 free in 44.41, just ahead of David Greeley (44.89).
- Will Grant was a three-time winner on the day, claiming the 100 back (47.95), 200 back (season-best 1:45.09) and 200 individual medley (1:49.31). Grant edged Rincon in the 200 back as Rincon finished in 1:45.77.
- Gures came in first in the 50 free, logging Harvard's best time of the season (20.46). He also won the 100 fly in 47.22.
- The Crimson ended the day by winning the 200 free relay (Gures, Greeley, Holmquist, Linnihan) in 1:20.54.
