Football Looks to Stay Perfect on Road This Saturday at Penn

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard will look to rebound on Saturday from a tough loss last week when it faces Penn in the City of Brotherly Love. The Saturday matinee is slated for a 1 p.m. ET start at Franklin Field and will air live on ESPN+.

The Crimson makes its final road trip of 2022 looking to cap an undefeated season away from Harvard Stadium. Harvard enters this week with a perfect 4-0 road record and is averaging 34.8 points in those outings. The last time the Crimson went 5-0 in road games was in 2015.

Harvard is looking to shake off last week's 21-20 home loss to Columbia, while the Quakers enter their final regular-season home game fresh off a 28-21 road win at Cornell. Penn, which is receiving votes in the AFCA FCS Coaches' Poll, is 4-0 this season at Franklin Field.

What to Know

• Harvard has been a resilient group this season, responding from its previous two losses with victories in the game immediately after and averaging 31.5 points in those games. Dating to last season, the Crimson is 3-0 in its last three opportunities to answer a loss with a win, avearging 37.3 points.

• The Crimson can secure a winning season with a victory over Penn, giving Harvard consecutive campaigns with at least six victories for the first time since 2015 (9-1) and 2016 (7-3). Last season's Harvard group went 8-2.

• Senior running back Aidan Borguet is climbing the Harvard single-season rushing charts and can further cement his place in Crimson program history with big performances in his last two weeks. Borguet enters this week with 1,003 yards and 10 touchdowns, which ranks 11th (list on page 2) and T-12th, respectively. Clifton Dawson '07 owns both single-season records, with the rushing record (1,302 yards in 2004) still within Borguet's reach (Borguet has four career games with at least 150 rushing yards, including two in 2022). The TD record (20 in 2006) appears safe.

• In just three seasons, Borguet has 2,250 career rushing yards and 25 touchdowns. He needs nine yards to surpass former teammate Aaron Shampklin '22 (2,258) for seventh all-time in Harvard history. His TD total, meanwhile, is the seventh most in Crimson history and he could rise to third all-time with five touchdowns in the final two weeks.

• Borguet eclipsed the 1,000-yard-rushing plateau for the season last week against Columbia. The senior totaled 108 yards on the ground and a touchdown, helping him rank fifth nationally in rushing yards per game (125.4), ninth in rushing yards (1,003) and 15th in rushing TDs (10). The Walter Payton Award Watch List member also ranks in the top 30 nationally in total touchdowns (23rd; 11), rush yards per carry (28th; 5.97) and scoring (29th; 8.2).

• Borguet leads the Ivy League in rushing attempts (168), rushing yards (1,003), rushing yards per game (125.4) and rushing TDs (tied; 10). He also owns a sizable advantage in Ivy rushing yards per game as Yale's Tre Peterson, who ranks second, is averaging 76.6 yards per outing.

• Senior quarterback Charlie Dean threw for 220 yards and a touchdown against Columbia, with 102 of those yards going to first-year wideout Cooper Barkate. Hailing from Newport Beach, California, Barkate entered the game vs. the Lions with just two catches for 29 yards on the season. He also added a nine-yard punt returns vs. Columbia.

• Junior defensive lineman Thor Griffith has gained recognition on the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List – an accolade that is awarded to the national defensive player of the year in college football's Division I FCS subdivision. Griffith had one of Harvard's three sacks on the day vs. Columbia, while adding four tackles and 1.5 TFL. For the season, he is second on the team in tackles for loss (10), third in sacks (4) and tied for third in total tackles (37).

• Senior team captain Truman Jones has been a menace on the defensive line. He leads all Harvard players with 11 TFL, five sacks, six quarterback hurries and three blocked kicks. Among all FCS players, Jones ranks third in blocked kicks, 19th in tackles for loss per game (1.4) and 35th in sacks.

• As a team vs. Columbia, Harvard intercepted three passes, setting a season high. The Crimson has four picks in its last three games, which one more than it had in its previous six games combined. Harvard also had multiple sacks (3) for the seventh time this season.
