Box Score DELAND, Fla. – Harvard let two-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning slip away in what ended in a 6-5 defeat to Stetson at the Hatter Classic on Saturday. The loss slid the Crimson to 2-2 on the season, while the Hatters moved to 9-4.
Â
Stetson delivered the first blow in the first inning, scoring a run on a two-out RBI single, but the lead was short-lived as
Morgan Melito led off the second with a solo shot. But just as Harvard did in the inning before, the Hatters answered with the tying run in the third on a sacrifice fly.
Â
The back-and-forth nature continued in the fourth inning with the Crimson using the long ball as its means of scoring runs. This time it was
Teagan Shaw going deep, clearing the left-field wall for a solo home run.
Â
Harvard increased its lead in the fifth as it manufactured three runs. After
Trina Hoang lined out to open the inning,
Lauren Bobowski drew a walk, bringing up
Allison Heffley. The junior singled to center and was followed by a
Megan Welsh double, which brought home Heffley. Melito kept the line moving with an RBI single and then sparked a double steal with Welsh dashing home to steal a fifth Crimson run.
Â
Undeterred, the Hatters responded with a run in their half of the inning to get within two of Harvard. After an uneventful sixth and top half of the seventh, the Hatters came to the plate looking to make some noise. Harvard opened the bottom of the seventh with a strikeout, but issued a walk and gave up a single, bringing up Evette Morgan, who hit a three-run pinch-hit walk-off homer to end the game.

- Morgan Melito led the Crimson offensive attack by going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
