JACKSON/FRANCONIA, N.H. – The Harvard ski team took 11th-place at the UNH Carnival/EISA Regionals this past weekend to conclude its 2022 carnival schedule. The nordic races were held at Jackson XC while alpine competed at Mittersill-Cannon. The Crimson saw a quartet of its men finish in the top-20: including
Everett Sapp,
Liam McNamara,
James Kitch and
Mads Groeholdt.
Nordic began with the 20k/15k mass start freestyle on Friday, as
Ursula Volz and
Mads Groeholdt each landed in 24th-place to lead the Crimson.
Madeline Kitch and
Annabel Hagen had strong showings for the women, collecting 42nd (10 points) and 44th (9 points), respectively.
James Kitch landed 20 points with a 27th-place finish while
Everett Sapp collected 16 points with his 34th-place finish.
Liam McInroy also landed in the top-40 by tabbing 38th.
Returning to Jackson XC on Saturday for the 10k/5k classic, the nordic men had one of its best days of the season, grabbing 4th-place as a team with a trio of top-20 finishers. Sapp equaled his career-best finish with an 11th-place showing, adding 31 points to his ledger.
James Kitch and Groeholdt were not far behind, grabbing 17th and 18th for a combined 49 points. The trio have anchored the Harvard squad throughout the season, with all three collecting points in 10 of 11 races. Almost mirroring Friday's results, Hagen claimed 10 points in 42nd while
Madeline Kitch earned 9 points in 43rd.
Laura Appleby finished just behind her teammates in 44nd, while
Tali Wong ended her season with a 54th-place showing.
With snow falling throughout the day at Mittersill, alpine was led by
Nellie Ide at Friday's giant slalom, who tabbed 25th to earn 20 points. The senior captain returned on Sunday to post 32nd in the slalom for 12 points. Ide, native of Minneapolis, Minn., concludes her excellent Harvard career, that was highlighted by a 16th place finish at NCAA Championships in 2020 and a 5th-place slalom finish at the Bates Carnival in 2020.
Liam McNamara led the way with a 19th-place finish in Saturday's slalom, despite suffering a broken thumb in the GS on Friday. McNamara was able to duct tape his hand to his pole, as he would not be denied his sixth top-25 of the season.
Elsie Halvorsen collected 15 points with a 29th-place finish, as she concludes her outstanding debut season for the Crimson, which saw her land in the top-20 on five separate occasions.
