Softball to Head South to Face Brown This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard returns to action this week for the first time since April 11, when it visits Brown for a weekend series. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday (12:30 p.m. ET) with the finale slated for Sunday (noon ET). All three games are set to air on ESPN+.

What to Know

- The Crimson is coming off a pause due to COVID-19 concerns and safety protocols within the program, which forced the postponement of its road series at Cornell this past weekend, April 16-17. The three-game set has been rescheduled for May 3-4 in Ithaca, N.Y.

- The last time Harvard was in action, it was polishing off a three-game sweep of Penn, April 9-11. The Crimson has won six straight Ivy League games, matching its longest streak since 2019. Harvard last won seven conference games in a row back in 2016.

- Harvard's Game-1 win over Penn gave head coach Jenny Allard her 650th career victory. The 27th-year head coach owns a career mark of 652-496-3 (320-122-1 Ivy League).

- Allison Heffley and Trina Hoang had strong efforts vs. Penn. In three games, Heffley hit .273 (3-for-11) with four runs, two home runs, a triple and eight RBI. Hoang, meanwhile, was 6-for-10 at the dish with three runs, a double, four RBI and 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. In Game 2, Hoang twice stole second base, allowing Allison O'Heany and Marissa Zheng, respectively, to score from third in a double-steal situation.

- Kendall Jean and Madi Mays were also productive in limited at-bats vs. Penn. Jean saw action in all three games, starting once, and hit .400 (2-for-5) with a run scored and three RBI. Playing in two games with one start, Mays was also 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI.

- On the pitching front, Katie Arrambide posted a 1.56 ERA in two starts vs. Penn. The first-year threw a complete-game shutout in Game 2 and finished the series with three strikeouts over 9.0 innings. Anna Reed, meanwhile, made two appearances and collected two victories in the process. She, too, had three punchouts across 9.0 innings in the series.

- Arrambide and Reed are part of a pitching staff that leads the Ivy League in ERA in conference games only. The unit owns an ERA of 1.59, as of April 21. Individually, Arrambide leads all Ivy pitchers in league games with a 1.11 ERA, while Reed ranks third at 1.58.

- Harvard will take a three-game series winning streak into its weekend set at Brown. The Crimson, however, dropped two of three in its last visit to Providence, R.I., back in 2018.

- Harvard, the reigning back-to-back Ivy League champions (2018, 2019), is looking to create separation at the top of the Ivy standings. At 9-3, the Crimson enters this week's action one game ahead of Princeton in the loss column (11-4). Dartmouth, meanwhile, is tied with Harvard in the loss column, but only has six conference victories.

- The Crimson is looking to continue its success on the road against Ivy League competition. This season, Harvard is 5-1 away from Soldiers Field. After the trip to Brown and a homestand vs. Dartmouth, the Crimson will play the aforementioned series at Cornell the first week of May.

- Harvard is 6-2 in the month of April, and over the last 10-plus completed seasons, the Crimson is  148-57-1 (.721) during the calendar's fourth month, a record that dates to the start of the 2010 campaign. Harvard has five more games scheduled for the month of April.

- After its trip to Providence, R.I., Harvard returns home to play host to Dartmouth in its final regular-season series. The Crimson will go into the series having won five straight games vs. the Big Green.

At the Helm

Jenny Allard is in her 27th season at the helm of the Harvard softball program and will be inducted into the NFCA Hall of Fame in 2022. She has helped guide the Crimson to the last two Ivy League titles (2018, 2019) and owns a career record of 652-496-3.
