NEW ORLEANS – Harvard University sailing placed seventh at the 2022 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Team Race National Championship, competing for the Walter C. Wood Trophy over three days from Monday to Wednesday out of the Southern Yacht Club on Lake Pontchartrain.
Opening a string of three national championship events hosted by Tulane University with support from Community Sailing New Orleans, the Crimson – ranked No. 4 in the latest Sail1Design Coed Poll – advanced to Stage 2 – the "Gold 8" round – and closed the competition with a 12-10 overall mark. Harvard made its first appearance at the ICSA Team Race National Championship since 2009.

The Crimson posted an 8-7 record in Stage 1 – the Round of 16. Harvard opened the competition with a 7-2 record over its first nine races, topping Dartmouth, St. Mary's College of Maryland, UC Santa Barbara, Hobart and William Smith, Tufts, Wisconsin, and Tulane, while following to Georgetown and Stanford. Closing out the first stage, the Crimson beat Boston College, while falling to Yale, Roger Williams, the College of Charleston, Navy, and Penn.
Harvard stood in a tie for eighth place alongside Penn following Stage 1, forcing an 8-9 Sailoff for the final spot in the "Gold 8" round. The Crimson proceeded to best the Quakers via a 1-3-6 (10 points) to 2-4-5 (11 points) score line.
Competing in Stage 2, the Crimson registered a 4-3 mark. Harvard picked up victories over Roger Williams, Georgetown, Tulane, and Stanford, while falling to Navy, Yale, and Boston College.
