CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Three members of the Harvard Women's Soccer team were called up to their respective national teams this week, and will travel to compete in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers/preparation games over the next several months. Áslaug Gunnlaugsdóttir (Iceland),
Josefine Hasbo (Denmark) and
Jade Rose (Canada) all earned call-ups to compete in international competition.
Rose, a sophomore defender for Harvard, has been competing for Soccer Canada's youth teams on an international scale since 2017 and has played two matches with the top national team. The Markham, Canada native burst onto the collegiate soccer scene in 2021, earning Ivy League and national recognition along with being named Canada Soccer's Youth Player of the Year. Rose competed for Team Canada this Summer in World Cup Qualifying matches. Rose will now travel with the squad to Australia to play in pre-World Cup prepartaion games.
Gunnlaugsdóttir, a sophomore midfielder and defender, recently competed with the Icelandic National Team in the EUFA 2022 Euro Tournament, playing in two matches. The Egilsstadir, Iceland native will now compete with her squad against Holland and Belarus in their FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
Hasbo, a sophomore midfielder, will continue to play with the Danish women's national team when it competes against Montenegro in a FIFA World Cup qualifier. Hasbo was one of the youngest players to earn a spot on the senior women's national team and has had success leading the U17 and U19 teams as a captain for the past several years.
